H.2.3 Chronic pyelonephritis
- Kidney appears slightly enlarged.
- The surface appears smooth.
- The capsule is intact.
- There is a white patch (arrow) on the capsular surface seen at the lower pole on the right half, probably an abscess.
- There are scattered small abscesses seen on the surface of the left half of the kidney.
Cut surface:
- The cortico-medullary junction is not well demarcated.
- The cortex appears dark and thickened, probably due to oedema.
- The medulla appears normal showing few calyces.
