- Both kidneys are contracted.
- The surfaces are finely granular and show small scattered haemorrhagic cysts.
- One kidney is cut opened and the cortex is compact and shows fibrous streaks.
- The renal papillae are prominent.
- The medulla is distorted.
- The calyces are prominent and appear normal.
- Fatty tissue in the renal pelvis seems increased.
