X.1.1 Melanoma of sole of foot with metastases in inguinal nodes
Specimens belonged to a 67 year old, female with a history of a painless inguinal lump for 3 months duration.
Macroscopy of this lump is shown on right side.
There are two similar lumps, each 5×3 cm in size.
The entire tissue is homogeneously black with thin, pale transparent covering and small tags of connective tissue outer to the transparent covering.
The histology shows a lymph node completely replaced by metastatic deposits of a melanoma.
The specimen of the left side is tissue from the sole of the foot.
It has specks of blackish discolouration on the outer surface but an intense dark line is very well seen on the cut surface just beneath the thick, keratinized skin.
