G.2.1 Miliary Tuberculosis of the spleen

  • This is a cut section of the spleen which appears to be enlarged.
  • Scattered throughout but denser under the capsule are well defined, rounded whitish areas, the centers of which show caseous necrosis.
  • Foci vary in size, but majority of them are about 1 cm in diameter.
  • Enlarged spleen with diffusely distributed well defined, rounded, pale colour areas.
  • Differential diagnosis:
  1. Miliary tuberculosis
  2. Lymphomas – Hodgkin's
  3. Sago spleen
  • Histology confirmed Miliary tuberculosis
