C.1.4 Lymphoblastic leukemia

  • 13 years old boy, presented with continuous fever, hepato-splenomegally, lymphadenopathy and per rectal bleeding.

Specimen consists of:

  1. Tongue
  2. Oesophagus
  3. Trachea
  4. Both lungs
  5. Heart & mediastinum

Tongue

  • Appears normal.
  • Tonsils are enlarged but smooth.

Oesophagus

  • Appears normal.
  • There are peticheal haemorrhages in the mucosa.

Lungs

  • Appears normal in size.
  • The hilar lymph nodes are enlarged.
  • Cut surface shows normal appearance.
  • There are few whitish black deposits over the surface of pleura.

Heart

  • Normal in size.
  • There are petechial haemorrhages on the pericardium.
  • Cut surface appears normal.

Mediastinum

  • Shows irregular large mass.
  • Cut surface shows irregular haemorrhagic areas in-between.
