C.1.4 Lymphoblastic leukemia

  • 13 year old boy, presented with continuous fever, hepato-splenomegally, lymphadenopathy and per rectal bleeding.

Specimen of:

  1. Liver
  2. Spleen
  3. Kidneys
  4. Small intestine
  5. Large intestine

Liver enlarged (1250 g)

  • Surface appears smooth.
  • Cut surface shows certain degree of venous congestion.
  • No deposits seen.

Spleen

  • Enlarged (300 g). Surface shows fine irregularities.

Kidneys

  • Normal in size.
  • Surface smooth, but shows haemorrhagic areas.
  • Cut surface show haemorrhages in medulla and cortex.

Large intestine

  • Appears normal

Small intestine

  • In the mucosa there are petechial haemorrhages.
  • Lymph nodes in the mesentery appear enlarged.
  • Cut surface of enlarged lymph nodes show smooth surface.
