F.3.7 Hepatocellular carcinoma

  • A 45 years old male presented with a history of recurrent epigastric pain, yellow discoloration of eye and loss of weight for 3 months.
  • On examinations he was febrile & icteric.
  • Ascites was noted.
  • The liver had an irregular surface with tender nodules.

 

  • The specimen shows liver & gall bladder.
  • The liver is grossly enlarged.
  • Weight is 3050gm.
  • The right lobe of the liver is bile stained, and contains numerous irregular, nodules of various sizes.
  • Left lobe is cut open to show a large cystic area containing mucinous material.
  • The surrounding liver is cirrhotic.
