F.3.1 Multiple metastatic deposits in the liver

  • There are large homogenous whitish masses of varying sizes, embedded in the liver.
  • Some of these are jutting out of the capsular surface and show some lobulations and it is giving the liver surface an irregular appearance.
  • The masses are encapsulated and are clearly demarcated from the liver tissue.
  • Some of them show necrosis in the center - ‘umbilication’
  • Differential diagnosis:
  1. Multiple secondaries from carcinoma, lymphoid neoplasm, sarcoma
  2. Gummas
  • Histology confirmed squamous carcinoma deposits.
