Q.1.7 Acute appendicitis
- Specimen of an appendix of a 30 year old male patient.
- He presented with a history of pain in the RIF of 10 days duration
- The appendix looks swollen and tense.
- The serosal surface shows dilated, engorged blood vessels, more towards the tip.
- The appendicular vessels which are seen to run along the meso appendix are dilated and enlarged.
- The appendicular lumen is completely obliterated by dark, crumbly material.
- Mucosa looks congested and oedematous.(A separate piece mounted on the left shows this)
