Q.1.6 Appendicular abscess
- Specimen of an appendicular mass of a 13 yr old female who presented with pain in the right ileac fossa for 4 days duration.
- On examination – RIF tenderness +
- Specimen of an appendix with a mass around the tip of the appendix.
- Outer surface of the appendix shows enlarged serosal blood vessels and an area of haemorrhages.
- Fatty tissue is seen to encompass the tip of the appendix.
- Cut section:-
The lumen of the appendix is blocked by yellow crumbly material (probably pus).
- The wall is extremely thinned out and necrotic.
