Q.1.2 Amoebic appendicitis with secondary infection and abscess formation
- The appendix has been bisected longitudinally.
- The whole organ appears swollen.
- Most of the serosa appears pale and thick.
- In places there were haemorrhage.
- The interior contains thick pus and distally an abscess has formed.
- The wall appears friable.
- In this specimen, the histology showed amoebae.
- (Amoebic appendicitis is a recognized but a rare complication of intestinal amoebiasis)
