P.2.6 Necrotizing enterocolitis
- The specimen shows a segment of bowel with ileum, appendix caecum & ascending colon and part of stomach wall.
- The colon has been cut open to show a gangrenous wall.
- The mucosa is sloughing off in some areas.
- Stomach and ileum do not show any abnormality.
- Several mesenteric lymph nodes can be seen, some of which are enlarged.
- The appendix is also gangrenous.
