O.4.1 Acute necrotizing enteritis of the jejunum

  • Specimen from a 35 year old patient who presented with an acute abdomen

 

  • The specimen is that of the jejunum with mesentery cut longitudinally and showing the mucosal folds which are dark in colour (hyperaemic), oedematous and in many places superficially ulcerated.
  • The serosal surface also shows dark, haemorrhagic areas.
  • An enlarged lymph node can be seen in the mesentery.
