J.2.12 Carcinoma of stomach

  • A 45 years old female presented with vomiting of 6 months duration.
  • The specimen is that of the entire stomach along with a stump of the oesophagus (the forceps marks are seen) and the pylorus.
  • The specimen is cut opened longitudinally to show a rather diffuse growth with marked hypertrophy of the wall of the stomach near the tumour
  • The tumour seems to extend right along the lesser curvature but stops short along the greater curvature.
  • The rugae, though seen, appear to be markedly reduced (probably due to infiltration by the tumour cells).
  • The lymph nodes along the lesser curvature are indistinctly seen.
  • The stomach as a whole, has not shrunken.
