J.2.9 Adenocarcinoma of the pyloric end of stomach

    • Specimen from a 61 years old women with a history of pain in the right hypochondrium, vomiting, loss of appetite and loss of weight for 3 months.
    • The specimen is that of the stomach and appendix.
    • The specimen of the stomach shows a large growth in the pyloric area.
    • The tumour is seen to infiltrate the whole thickness of the stomach wall, with ulceration in the middle of the growth (shown by a probe).
    • Whitish nodules can be seen on the serosal surface of the stomach. (Satellite tumour nodules or lymph nodes).
    • An enlarged lymph node can also be seen. (Pre pyloric / gastro-duodenal group)
    • The specimen of the appendix shows a small nodule in the distal part.
