K.8.10 Embryo - 7-8 weeks size from an ectopic pregnancy
- The specimen was taken from the peritoneal cavity of a 38 year old patient after an exploratory laparotomy.
- The patient presented with a POA of 6-8 weeks duration and clinical signs and symptoms of an Ectopic pregnancy.
- The specimen shows an embryo of approximately 7-8 weeks size.
- The chorion and the amnion have been opened and the embryo shown. The eyes, auricles of the ears and well formed toes are visible.
- The umbilical cord and the chorion frondosum (Bushy chorion) can be seen clearly.
- Microscopic examination of sections taken from this area showed numerous chorionic villi.
