K.8.8 Partial Hydateform mole

  • From a 28 years old mother – First pregnancy.
  • Caesarian section was done for ?Twins.
  • One baby was delivered and was normal.
  • The placenta was bulky.

 

  • The specimen is that of the placenta.
  • The upper portion shows a normal amniotic surface with the membrane.
  • The umbilical cord is seen to arise (as shown by the mark) from the center.
  • The cord however shows haemorrhagic cavities along its length (dissected out to show the lining of the cavity).
  • The rest of the cord appears normal.
  • The maternal side of the placenta over the upper portion shows normal features of the cotyledons.
  • The lower half of the placenta however shows cystic vesicles of varying size.
