K.8.7 Velamentous insertion of the cord

  • The specimen is that of the placenta along with part of the umbilical cord.
  • The amniotic surface of the placenta appears normal.
  • The maternal surface show irregular cotyledons some of which appear pale white and solid. (Probably due to increased fibrous tissue)
  • The umbilical cord is seen to arise from the edge of the membrane towards the extreme right corner. (Velamentous insertion)
