K.7.7 Tubo–ovarian abscess
- The specimen is from a 45 years old patient who presented with chronic abdominal pain and menorrhagia.
- On examination a right tubo-ovarian mass was palpated and a total abdominal hysterectomy and a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was done.
- The specimen consists of the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
- The uterus is cut sagitally and the left fallopian tube and ovary can be seen which appear normal.
- The right tube is enlarged and a large oval cystic mass can be seen incorparting the right ovary.
- Part of the cyst wall is cut to show the inside of the cystic mass.
- The cyst walls are thick.
- The cyst contained thick yellow pus.
