K.2.5 Endometrial stromal sarcoma of the uterus

Clinical history:-

• The specimen is from a 24 years old unmarried female, with a previous history of a myomectomy done 2 years back with a histology report of leiomyoma.
• She presented with lower abdominal swelling.
• An abdominal hysterectomy was done.

The specimen:-

• The specimen shows an irregular uterus mass cut in several areas for histological sections.
• It is difficult to identify the ovary and cervix.
• The cut section of the specimen shows a fleshy whitish homogeneous appearance in most areas and a whorled appearance is seen in some parts.
• Histopathology confirmed an endometrial stromal sarcoma.
