K.2.3 Endometrial stromal sarcoma (Endolymphatic stromal myosis)
- From a 47 years old female presenting with menorrhagia for 2/12.
- Past History - Polypectomy done on three occasions, at 1 yr intervals.
- Histopathology findings were benign endometrial polyp on 1st two occasions and endometrial sarcoma on 3rd
- The specimen is that of the uterus along with the cervix.
- The uterus appears bulky but the surface is smooth.
- The cut section shows myometrial hypertrophy with seeding intramural leiomyoma scattered throughout.
- Apart from this, the myometrium also shows spotty haemorrhagic areas. (Probably due to Adenomyosis)
- The endometrium appears to be normal in thickness.
- However, there appears to be a polyp arising from the endometrial surface from the section to the extreme left.
- This polyp appears rather pale white, solid and firm and seems to protrude via the cervical os.
- The cervix appears normal.
- Histology shows an Endometrial stromal sarcoma.
