K.1.19 Malignant teratoma

  • 41 year old female presented with an abdominal lump of 1 year duration and menorrhagia.
  • The specimen received was an oval shaped lump weighing 1kg.
  • The outer surface is smooth and pale.
  • The cut section presented a solid area and a large cystic area.
  • The variegated solid part consists of foci of yellow fatty areas, blackish areas of old haemorrhage and foci of white fibrous tissue.
  • There were foci of calcification which were hard to the touch.
  • Histology confirmed a malignant teratoma.
