K.1.18 Benign serous cystadenofibroma of the ovary
- From a 53 years old female presenting with a lower abdominal pain for two weeks.
- The specimen is that of the uterus, both ovaries and fallopian tubes.
- The weight was 2kg.
- The uterus appears to be atrophic and rather elongated.
- In the regions of the internal os there seems to be a small polyp arising in the inner aspect (best seen in the uterine section to the right).
- The ovary on this side shows a small cyst cut open.
- The inner lining appears to be smooth.
- The other ovary (left side one) appears to be replaced by a large cyst almost occupying the entire jar.
- This cyst shows a smooth surface and cut section shows a unilocular appearance.
- The inner lining however seems to show lemon green mucinous areas alternating with areas showing mulberry like cyst (as seen in the centre).
- Some of these cysts appear to be filled with mucinous fluid and a few appear rather solid and have a pale white appearance.
- The same type of solid white growths are also seen on the extreme left of the specimen.
