K.1.6 Bilateral ovarian tumours
- Outer surface of the uterus is smooth.
- The cut surface of which shows several intramural tumours.
- The cut surface of these tumours show a whorled appearance.
- The uterine cavity is partially obstructed.
- Both ovaries are enlarged, the left more than the right.
- A large solid looking tumour occupies the left ovary.
- It has a haemorrhagic periphery and a paler center.
- Periphery looks friable.
- Right ovary looks solid.
Differential diagnosis
1. The uterine masses are leiomyomas.
2. The solid left ovarian mass could be
Granuloma cell tumour
Other sex cord stromal tumours
Fibroma thecoma group of tumours.
Note: these seems unlikely because of the homogenous appearance. We expect malignant tumours to look fleshy.
It may also be a parametrial leiomyoma undergoing infarction.
