V.3.2 Recurrence of thyroid follicular carcinoma
- A 65 years old women presenting with a history of lump in the neck for5 years.
- Sudden increase in size recently.
- Pain on and off.
- No change in voice.
- No difficulty in breathing.
- She has undergone thyroidectomy 2 years back.
- The specimen is that of a nodule with an overlying skin.
- The skin appears streatched over the nodule.
- The cut section shows a well demarcated pale white solid homogeneous nodule almost adjoining the streatched skin.
- The cut surface of the nodule also shows haemorrhagic areas in parts.
- Histology confirmed a follicular carcinoma of the thyroid with capsular and vascular invasion.
