V.1.6 Multinodular colloid goiter
- Thyroid gland of a 45 year old female presenting with a history of a lump in the neck of 25 years duration.
- Gradual enlargement with no pain, no difficulty in breathing.
- And no toxic or hypothyroid symptoms.
- The specimen is that of the left lobe of the thyroid weight being 350gms.
- The lobe appears globular in shape.
- The surface is smooth.
- The cut section shows a definite thick capsule which is seen to extend into the substance of the gland dividing the gland into compartments of varying sizes.
- The cut surface shows solid pale white areas some of which show glassy colloid substance.
