V.1.5 Colloid nodular goitre

• Autopsy specimen is that of the thyroid cuffing a portion of trachea.
• The upper part of the oesophagus is seen adjoining the trachea.
• The thyroid gland shows enlargement of both lobes - left more than right.
• The surface however is smooth.
• The cut section shows a homogeneous dark brown appearance due to the colloid substances.
