Z.1.1 Atheroma of artery

  • Longitudinally open descending aorta shows a number of openings which are the openings of the intercostal arteries.
  • On the luminal surface of the artery are yellowish raised patches along the whole length of the artery.
  • These are seen at the origins of arterial branches too.
  • These are atheromatous plaques.
  • Some of the plaques have ulcerated.
