D.3.8 Carcinoma of lung
- The outer surface of the lung shows patchy yellow areas on the pleural surface.
- Upper part of the specimen shows consolidated lung tissue, with the lymph nodes incorporated in the solid areas.
- Some of the lymph nodes have broken down.
- One bronchus, in longitudinal section, shows an irregular mucosal lining, and contains friable material in the lumen. ?Pus
- In the lower part of the specimen, the small bronchi and bronchioles are clogged by white material.
Differential diagnosis:
- Carcinoma of lung with secondary deposits in lymph nodes.
- Tuberculous bronchopneumonia and pleural thickening.
- Histology conformed poorly differentiated squamous carcinoma of lung.
