  • The left atrial wall is grossly thickened and the cavity dilated.
  • The mitral valve barely admits a finger.
  • The valve cusps are rigid to touch.
  • The left ventricle is hypertrophied and the aortic valve is opened to show the thickened valve cusps.
  • Atheromatous streaks are seen on the aortic intimal surface.
  • The right ventricle is dilated and upper lateral part of the wall thinned out.
  • The apical part however shows hypertrophy.
  • The pulmonary valve cusps appear normal.
