B.3.8 Multiple valvular defects due to rheumatic carditis
- Both right and left heart opened.
- The left atrial wall is grossly thickened and the cavity dilated.
- The mitral valve barely admits a finger.
- The valve cusps are rigid to touch.
- The left ventricle is hypertrophied and the aortic valve is opened to show the thickened valve cusps.
- Atheromatous streaks are seen on the aortic intimal surface.
- The right ventricle is dilated and upper lateral part of the wall thinned out.
- The apical part however shows hypertrophy.
- The pulmonary valve cusps appear normal.
