B.3.5 Infective endocarditis
- Shows dilated left ventricle, left atrium and a proximal part of ascending aorta.
- The aortic valve cusps are distorted, thickened and nodular – probably a result of rheumatic vegetations.
- A dark haemorrhagic friable looking mass sits on the aortic aspect of one of the aortic valve cusps (a vegetation or a thrombus).
- The mitral valve appears normal.
